It was a chilly evening in the Pacific Northwest as the Yuans drove into Fort Langley, BC to get ready for the weekend’s Holy Sexuality Conference. According to Associate Pastor of Community Outreach, Jason Lavergne, it was the first time that Fort Langley Evangelical Free Church had “put on something of this level and brought someone of Christopher’s caliber” into speak to their congregation. So, there was excitement and nervousness to what the Lord would do this weekend.
The Holy Sexuality Conference started off with the Yuans’ arrival at 8:15am to run through the logistics of the day’s events and at 9:00am it was time to address the 250 attendees with the first message. Dr. Leon Yuan, Angela, and Dr. Christopher Yuan shared a shortened version of their family testimony then Christopher taught on Homosexuality: Nature vs Nurture. This message helped the attendees to see what are the root causes of homosexuality. To help them decipher “Are people born gay?” With his background in the medical field, Dr. Yuan reviewed with the attendees the scientific studies on the etiology of homosexuality, bringing clarity on this controversial and divisive topic.
After a small break, it was time to dig deeper into Scripture as Dr. Yuan taught on Homosexuality: Texts & Hermeneutics and ended the morning session with an honest and authentic question and answer session. Attendees headed into lunch being reinforced with the ideas shared by Pastor Jason that this was a “great step in a positive direction” and the knowledge that “Christopher is sensitive to this in general” made it easier to point people to Christ.
The afternoon was followed up with messages on Redeeming Biblical Singleness, A Christian Response to Homosexuality, and another powerful question and answer session. Sunday morning was greeted by a beautiful Canadian Sabbath day as Dr. Yuan and his parents ended their time at Fort Langley with another 250 people hearing their full family testimony in the worship services.
